Damien Harris Bids Farewell to NFL: Buffalo Bills RB Retires at 27 Following Severe Neck Injury.
The Buffalo Bills had a scary injury last season.
One of the scarier injuries happened to Damien Harris. Per GH records, Harris suffered a neck injury in Week 6 and had to be taken off the field by an ambulance:
In Sunday’s game, offseason addition and former Alabama Crimson Tide star Damien Harris sustained a neck injury that required him to be taken off the field while the NFL community gasped in unison.
Though Harris escaped a permanent injury, the Bills and he were put in the concussion protocol so that Harris may be ready for Week 7.

Harris wrote he was thankful for his time in the league:
“THE PEOPLE I’VE MET, THE PLACES I’VE BEEN AND WILL GO ON TO GO, THE EXPERIENCES AND MEMORIES I’VE MADE, THE IMPACT I’VE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE TO THIS POINT, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT MEAN THE MOST TO ME. GRATITUDE IS DEFINED AS “THE QUALITY OF BEING THANKFUL; READINESS TO SHOW APPRECIATION FOR AND TO RETURN KINDNESS.” TODAY I AM GRATEFUL I HAVE FOUND THE STRENGTH TO WALK AWAY FROM THE GAME I LOVE SO MUCH,” Harris wrote.
Harris played for the Patriots before the Bills
Prior to being selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Harris earned two national titles while attending Alabama. He played for the Patriots until the 2022 campaign. In 2023, he inked a deal with the Bills.
Throughout his five years in the NFL, Harris rushed for 2,188 yards and twenty-one touchdowns.
