BREAKINGNEWS : Hoskins’ Homer Sparks Ejection: Mets-Brewers Rivalry……

METS: Yohan Ramírez of the New York Mets was ejected on Saturday after throwing behind Rhys Hoskins during the seventh inning, intensifying the rivalry between the two teams. Earlier in the game, the designated hitter for the Milwaukee Brewers had already contributed three singles and four RBIs.

“Big-leaguers don’t miss by 8 feet,” Hoskins said of the wayward pitch. “Whether it was on purpose or not is really not for me to decide. But this game has had a way of policing itself for many, many years. So let’s focus on doing it the right way if we’re going to do that.”

Ramírez refuted any intention of harm.

 

“I was trying to throw my sinker inside,” he said, “and sometimes when I try to get it too inside, the ball just runs. In this weather, I didn’t have the grip that I want.”

Hoskins’ forceful slide onto second base on Friday infuriated Jeff McNeil of the Mets. The benches cleared as soon as the infielder began ranting and pointing at Hoskins. The Mets argued that Hoskins’ slide into second base on McNeil was not the first time he has gone into second base in that manner and that it was also later than it should have been.

Hoskins hit Luis Severino’s first pitch down the left-field line in the first inning with two on and first base open, driving in two runs for Milwaukee. After two innings, Hoskins launched a two-run home run off of Severino’s hanging slider into the left-field bleachers.

The night after a brawl, Hoskins started the slowest home run trot imaginable during a 2019 home run at Citi Field. He jogged around the bases at a typical pace this time.

In the sixth, Hoskins blew a single and came around to score after Severino fumbled.

After Hoskins, Ramírez fired a 94 mph two-seamer to shoulder level for the first pitch of the plate appearance in the seventh inning. Hoskins stood with his arms raised, and Ramírez, maybe sensing that the ball had caromed off the backstop, sprinted in toward home. The umpires removed Ramírez from his Mets debut after a confrontation.

“You hate to see it,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “Definitely not trying to hit him. I understand their frustration. It’s going to be a topic because of what happened yesterday. He’s trying to pitch up and in. He’s trying to get a ground ball with the sinker. That happens.

“I know it looks really, really bad, but we’re not trying to hit anybody.”

Walking to Hoskins on a four-pitch walk, Jorge López entered.
