Being the first running back to accomplish so in over ten years and the first San Francisco 49er to do so in the previous twenty-five years, Christian McCaffrey will be featured on the cover of “Madden 25.” On August 16, the game will be live worldwide.
Last year, in his first full season with the 49ers, McCaffrey won the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award after setting league records for total and rushing yards. With 21, he also tied Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins for the most touchdowns overall.
That is not even close to the number of touchdowns that video game players utilized him for last year, over 450 million, according to Madden NFL. On Madden 24, he was the most well-liked running back.
“Christian’s electrifying, dynamic and physical play style perfectly represents the gameplay innovations we’re bringing to Madden NFL 25 and made him the perfect fit for this year’s cover,” said Mike Mahar, senior production director of Madden NFL.
McCaffrey is the first-ever 49er to be on the global cover of the game. Garrison Hearst, a running back, appeared on the international edition in 1999.
In addition, McCaffrey is the first running back on a Madden cover in almost ten years, which speaks to the league’s growing dependence on the passing game. Adrian Peterson was on one cover and Barry Sanders was on the other for the 2013 game.
In recognition of McCaffrey’s 2023 achievements, the 49ers just extended his contract with him for two years, making him the highest-paid rusher in the league. McCaffrey, 28, is 28 years old. Last week, McCaffrey stated that it was critical for him to keep raising the financial threshold for running backs.
“Running back’s been undervalued for a long time now, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction,” he said.
