Danny Jansen is set to make Major League Baseball history on Monday at Fenway Park.
The opening game of a doubleheader between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays is scheduled for Monday. The game was postponed on June 26 due to inclement weather. When the game was halted in the top of the second inning back in June, Jansen—who was then with the Blue Jays—was at the plate with one out and one on. Following a one-hour and forty-eight-minute break, the Red Sox and Jays declared that the game would resume as a doubleheader on August 26.
When the June 26 game began, Jansen might be on the other side of the field because he was traded to the Red Sox on July 27.
Jansen will pinch in to start the game’s second inning, Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced to reporters on Friday. This will make Jansen the first player in history to play for both teams in the same game.
“I don’t even know how this works,” Jansen said when asked about the suspended game after he’d been traded to Boston. “I’ve heard about it a couple times. That’d be funky.”
