David de Gea signs with Fiorentina to begin his post-United journey in search of fresh opportunities and a chance to establish himself as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers.

Fifteen months after leaving Manchester United as a free agent, David de Gea has joined Fiorentina.

After his contract expired last summer, the 33-year-old goalkeeper left Old Trafford after 12 years and 545 games.

He now has a one-year contract with Fiorentina, with the possibility of an extension.

In the 2023 FA Cup final, De Gea made his final appearance in a competitive match for any club when United lost to Manchester City.

In his more than ten years in Manchester, the former Spain international broke Peter Schmeichel’s club clean-sheet record and won five titles.

He made the last of his 45 appearances for his country in 2010.

Pietro Terracciano, who made 53 appearances in all competitions and with 13 clean sheets, was Fiorentina’s first-choice goalkeeper in the previous campaign.

The previous season, Fiorentina finished seventh in Serie A and advanced to the Europa Conference League final, where Olympiacos defeated them.

On August 17, they kick off the new Serie A season at Parma.
