Maximus, the youngest son of Los Angeles Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, received a health report on Thursday from his wife via social media.
Three-year-old Maximus is suffering from a severe instance of the uncommon neurological disorder Guillan-Barré syndrome. The post stated that full-body paralysis was one of Maximus’ symptoms. The Mayo Clinic states that the condition is “a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. It can cause weakness, numbness or paralysis.”
Chelsea Freeman’s post said the child was excavated from his breathing tube and taken off the ventilator on Wednesday afternoon. Maximus remains hospitalized.
“These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives,” Chelsea wrote. “Maximus is such a special boy and he has been fighting SO hard. This is going to be a journey to recover, but we have faith that he will be completely healed. ”
The All-Star first baseman, Freeman, has not been with the Dodgers since July 26, the day the family disclosed that Maximus was in the hospital. Maximus’ condition that day “rapidly decreased,” as Chelsea detailed in her most recent post, prompting Freeman to go back to Los Angeles to be with his family and small son.

The Freemans think that Maximus’s viral illness during the All-Star game in Arlington, Texas, last month was the cause of the problem.
The Dodgers did not provide a timeline for Freeman’s comeback at the time of the original announcement. Freeman is still on his family’s emergency leave.
The squad would give Freeman all the time he needs, according to manager Dave Roberts’ statement on Tuesday.
“He’s still kind of in it with Max,” Roberts said. “I don’t see him coming back for this series and we have the off day after this series and we’ll revisit. To be quite honest, I haven’t even broached that subject of him coming back, I just don’t feel it’s right.”
