On Friday, the FBI made public a 475-page document about O.J. Simpson. The majority of the pages are devoted to the murder inquiry involving Nicole Brown Simpson, Simpson’s ex-wife, and her friend Ronald Goldman. Simpson was cleared of all charges following a dramatic eight-month criminal trial that captivated the nation.
Simpson gained notoriety early in his career for his skill on the football field while playing for the Buffalo Bills and USC Trojans. Later, he was linked to the criminal and civil cases surrounding Brown Simpson and Goldman’s 1994 deaths.
After a protracted police automobile chase, Simpson was taken into custody in connection with Brown Simpson and Goldman’s case, which was shown live on television. He was later accused and put on trial in 1995.
Simpson was convicted guilty of the deaths two years later at a 1997 civil trial, and the judge imposed a $33.5 million damage award on the two families.
Documents on individuals are routinely released by the FBI after their death. It is unclear whether the bureau has more records to release, even though this release was designated as “Part 01”.
Simpson died of cancer at age 76 in April.
