The Manchester United team has been announced for their US preseason tour.
fresh signee Leny Yoro, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, and Rasmus Hojlund are among those invited; they returned to Carrington last week after competing at the European Championship.
Jadon Sancho is also on the road following Erik ten Hag’s statement that the two had “drawn a line” under their disagreements. Harry Maguire, who missed the end of the previous season due to injury, has been included to Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad. He joins Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount as several other senior players.
Due to their eligibility for three weeks of mandatory vacation following their involvement in Euro 2024 and the Copa America, nine senior players for United’s squad are not on the tour.
After supporting Argentina to the Copa America title in the United States, Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho are out, and Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw are also absent after playing for England in the 2024 European Championship.
fresh signee In addition, Joshua Zirkzee, who played for the Netherlands team that advanced to the semifinals, is not listed, and Facundo Pellistri is not there either, having played for Uruguay that lost to Colombia in the Copa America semifinals.
Altay Bayindir, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Dalot are also out after Portugal and Turkey advanced to the quarterfinals of the Euro 2024 competition.
Tyrell Malacia has not left Carrington to continue his rehabilitation program. He was out for the whole 2023–24 season due to injury.
Steve McClaren, the assistant coach for United, will work with the players returning from international duty at Carrington rather than traveling to America with the rest of the team.
Ten Hag will be accompanied on tour by the club’s new football leadership group, which consists of Sir Dave Brailsford, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth, and Jason Wilcox, in an effort to establish a strong working rapport prior to the start of the new campaign.
After losing 1-0 to Rosenborg in Norway in their first preseason friendly, Ten Hag’s team defeated Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield thanks to goals from Jordan Hugill and Amad Diallo.
United’s next match is against Arsenal on July 27 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California; on July 31, they play Real Betis at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.
August 3 at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina, is the tour’s last game versus Liverpool.
United has also declared that Rasmus Hojlund will wear the No. 9 shirt for the 2024–25 season ahead of the tour. The striker, who wore No. 11 in his rookie campaign, will now wear the shirt Anthony Martial left empty after leaving this summer. Dimitar Berbatov, Andy Cole, and Sir Bobby Charlton are among the former United players to have worn the No. 9 shirt.
On August 10, United will play Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley. Six days later, they will host Fulham to begin their Premier League campaign.
