Anna Sandberg, a defender from Sweden, has officially joined Manchester United Women from BK Hacken.
The 21-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract that will expire in 2027 with a one-year extension option.
After Melvine Malard, whose loan from Lyon has been extended, Elisabeth Terland, and Dominique Janssen, she joins United as their fourth summer addition.
“I’m very happy and grateful to sign for this big club, Manchester United,” Sandberg said. “I hope I can help our team with my qualities and deliver many winning moments for our fantastic fans.”
In 2022, Sandberg moved from fellow Swedish team KIF Orebro to Hacken. Last season, she played in seven Champions League games as her team defeated Real Madrid and Paris FC to advance out of a challenging group and into the quarterfinals.
The left-back made her World Cup debut for Sweden in 2023 and played in the team that advanced to the semifinals of the competition last summer.
“We are delighted to have Anna join our Manchester United family,” added United head coach Marc Skinner. “She is a talented young player, who already has a wealth of international and Champions League experience. We look forward to seeing her develop further in red.”
Several players, including goalkeeper Mary Earps, captain Katie Zelem, and winger Lucia Garcia, left United this summer after their contracts expired. United finished sixth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) the previous season. Meanwhile, Nikita Parris, a forward, has an extended contract.
The 2024–25 WSL season starts at home against West Ham United for Skinner’s team.
