Manchester United Women have completed the signing of Canada midfielder Simi Awujo.
The 20-year-old, who played for the USC Trojans of the University of Southern California since 2021, transferred to United from the American collegiate system.
Her contract is for three years, expiring in 2027.
“To say that I’m a professional footballer for Manchester United is insane,” Awujo said. “I’m so excited for the season ahead, what the future holds here and just to be a Red Devil.”
After competing for Canada in the 2024 Olympics, Awujo has joined United. Her team advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Germany on penalties, despite a six-point deduction due to a drone surveillance controversy.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she competed for the United States at the youth level before earning her Canadian debut in 2022 against Australia at the age of 18. She has 20 international caps under her belt and competed for Canada in the World Cup last summer.

Awujo is a follower of fellow countryman Jayde Riviere, who joined United in January 2023 after likewise making his way through the American university system.
“Simi is an exciting young talent who we are delighted has chosen to continue her football journey with us here at Manchester United,” head coach Marc Skinner added. “Our fans can expect a midfielder with international pedigree, who will only develop further in our competitive English game.”
After Anna Sandberg, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen, and Melvine Malard—whose loan from Lyon has been extended—join United, Awujo becomes the team’s fifth summer addition.
United won the FA Cup and placed fifth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) in the previous campaign.
Several players, including winger Lucia Garcia, captain Katie Zelem, and goalkeeper Mary Earps, left the team this summer after their contracts expired. Meanwhile, Nikita Parris, a forward, has an extended contract.
The 2024–25 WSL season starts at home against West Ham United for Skinner’s team.
